Water variation
The land moves away and the sulphur lilies stand under the whitening sky as the eye's edge appears.
On the beach, in the coral caves, under the sand, into the wound the knife has made in the flesh, flows the sound of water beginning to move, of water, lying dark in the small harbor between mountains, starting to turn as the land moves away.
Each tooth of rock above the village trees is sensitive to the sound, and in the tortuous channels beside the eye, beneath the eye's ridge, the water rises and falls without light.
By the iris it makes green labyrinths giving promise of later homes for creatures that live in slime.
The cliffs at the island's edge crash into the white-edged water and night melts into the ocean.
As the earth hastens on into the orient of sky the boat hesitates in the harbor.
The stucco villa on the hill rises out of the dark and the moon goes behind the highest crest of rock.
Inland we could hear the volcano's sound but here the water, moving in all directions in indecision, is only an obbligato to the reveille whining in port.
The eye, striving to recall in the morning the warmer fastness of a hanging valley, moves in growing circles, a gull flying in white spirals where the sun arrives with a great noise out of the water to make the sky a color.

On y arrive
